Blood is pumped from the heart through the arteries out to our muscles and organs.

By generating pressure pumps work. Too much pressure puts a damage on the arteries and on the heart itself. This may cause an artery to burst or the heart to fail under the strain – in the worst case stopping altogether.

On a combination of two factors:Blood pressure depends
• How narrowed or relaxed your arteries are.

• How forcefully the heart pumps blood around the body

When blood is forced through the arteries at an increased pressure hypertension occurs. In Uk around 10 million people have high blood pressure and that’s one in five of us.

Causes Of hypertension?

The cause is unknown for more than 90 per cent of people with high blood pressure,. This is called ‘primary’ or ‘essential hypertension’.

There is an underlying cause in the remaining 10 per cent or so,. This is called ‘secondary hypertension’.

Some of the main causes for secondary hypertension are:

• Diseases in the arteries supplying the kidneys
• Chronic alcohol abuse
• Chronic kidney diseases
• Endocrine tumours.
• Hormonal disturbances
