For a number of painful conditions of the joints and bones ‘Arthritis’ is a common term. The most familiar type of arthritis is ‘Osteoarthritis. Cartilage between the bones slowly wastes away and this can lead to painful rubbing of bone on bone in the joints. Osteoarthritis mostly affects people who are between 40 and 60; With age it grows more common. We observe that 12% of people over 65 are affected. Misalignment or we can say it may also cause joints to fall out of their usual positions.Mainly joints in the hands, spine, knees and hips are affected.
The major category of inflammatory arthritis is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is a constant state recognized by pain and swelling in the joints, most important to fall in movement, and the bones stop working. It is affecting between 1% and 3% of the population, when people are between the ages of 30 and 50 it usually starts. We have observed that women are affected three times more often than men.
Some other forms of arthritis include systemic lupus erythematosis, , fibromyalgia, , gout, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis Reiters syndrome cervical spondylitis.
Genrally Arthritis is associated with elder (aged) people, but it can also affect children. This is called juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), also known as juvenile chronic arthritis or juvenile rheumatic arthritis.
The 3 Main Types Are :-
• Oligo-articular-onset JIA – In this only some joints are affected, in knee most commonly .It has good recovery rates and the joints are rarely affected in the long term. However, there is a risk of developing uveitis (inflammation of the eye), so children should have regular checks with an eye specialist (ophthalmologist).
• Polyarticular JIA (or polyarthritis) – In this many joints are inflamed, with symptoms very similar to adult rheumatoid arthritis. Into adult life this kind of arthritis may carry on
• Systemic JIA – Whole body is been affected and causes fever and rashes as well as inflamed joints.
The cause of JIA is unknown but theories includes or viral infections.
