It is a neurological disorder caused by damage to the left side of the brain where our language centers are located Expressive aphasia is also known as: • Broca’s aphasia • Non-fluent aphasia From a French surgeon the term, Broca’s aphasia derives its name, Pierre Paul Broca, who in 1861 identified an area of the brain responsible for specific speech and language function. Damage to this area of the brain, known as, “Broca’s area” will result in expressive aphasia.
